Each Union Parishad consists of 1 (one) chairman and 12 (twelve) members, of whom 9 (nine) are members of general seats and 3 (three) are members of reserved women's seats. The chairman and members of the general seat are elected by direct vote. In each union council three seats are reserved for women only which are called reserved seats and the members of those reserved seats are also elected by direct vote. Women candidates also directly participated in the election of members of the nine general seats. The chairman of the union council is considered a member of the council. The chairman and members receive honorarium as determined by the government. The names of the chairman and members are notified in the official gazette.
